College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Third at Emory Spring Invitational

ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot 305 in Tuesday’s final round to share third place at the 2015 Emory Spring Invitational. The Quakers shot 301-305-606 for their fifth top-three finish in eight tournaments this season.

First-round leader Methodist University carded the 13-team tournament’s low round for the second straight day. The Monarchs shot 294-298-592 and won the event by nine strokes over Berry College (296-305-601). Guilford shared third place with LaGrange College, which turned in Tuesday’s second-best score (299) to catch the Quakers and finish at 307-299-606. Oglethorpe University placed fifth at 310-302-612.

Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) shot the Quakers’ low round Tuesday (73) and made the all-tournament team with a sixth-place finish among 70 contestants. He shot two-over-par 73-73-146 for the tournament and finished two shots behind tournament co-medalists John Grimes of Greensboro College and Methodist’s Jackson Collier, who both shot 144 on the par-72, 7,050-yard Barnsley Garden Resort Course.

The Quakers’ Drew Thompson, who held the first-round lead after a two-under 70 Monday, shot 77 Tuesday and finished tied for seventh place at 70-77-147. Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central), the reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Golfer of the Week, shaved four shots off his opening round with a 75 Tuesday to place 21st at 79-75-144. Tanner Gross (Archdale, N.C./Homeschooled) and Mitch Robinette both shot 80 Tuesday. Gross finished in a share of 40th place at 79-80-159, one shot better than Robinette (80-80-160), who was 43rd.
