GREENVILLE, N.C. – Jamie Schnuck set a new school record in the hammer throw and Christine Rickert won her second-straight javelin title to lead the High Point University track & field team on day on of competition at the ECU Invitational.

Schnuck set a PR for the second-straight week in the hammer throw, but this time, the impressive mark of 48.22m (158-02) broke an HPU record that had stood for more than 10 years. The previous top mark was set by Nicole Garner (47.50m, 155-10) on April 3, 2004 at the Duke Invitational.

Schnuck’s throw earned her a fourth-place finish and tallied five points for the Panthers. Through three events, High Point sits in third place with 15 points. The host Pirates lead the meet with 40 points.

In javelin action, Rickert recorded a mark of 45.75m (150-1) to finish first in the event and earn 10 points for the Panthers. She also won the title at the VertKlasse Meeting this past weekend. In addition, freshman Mackenzie Vermette put forth a solid throw to place ninth with a collegiate PR of 35.50m (116-06).

“Congrats to Jamie on her school record and Mackenzie on her PR today,” associate head coach Eric Dudley said. “Our throws squad members have been cultural leaders on the team in terms of work ethic, intensity and commitment to the program. It’s no wonder this group has been on fire in terms of setting personal and school records this year.”

The Panthers take part in a full set of track & field events on the final day of competition at the ECU Invitational on Saturday.
