College Track & Field Results: Guilford Claims Four Top Division III Finishes at Aggie Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C.—Guilford College combined for four top-Division III finishes at Saturday’s Aggie Invitational at cross-town North Carolina A&T. The meet featured schools from all NCAA divisions, including members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

Trent Evans (Winston-Salem, N.C./R.J. Reynolds) earned the Quakers best finish of the day with a fourth-place finish overall in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.24. The finish was the top Division III time in the race. Brandon Rothfuss joined Evans in the top-ten finishes overall, placing eighth at 1:58.58 for the third-best Division III time.

Andris Goncarovs claimed a seventh-place finish in the 1,500 meter run at 4:08.23, another top Division III time. David Cason (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) joined Goncarovs in the top-ten, placing ninth with a time of 4:11.61.

Alex Martin (Pfafftown, N.C./Reagan) claimed the top Division III time in the 100 meter dash, finishing 18th overall with a time of 10.94 seconds. The freshman claimed the second-best Division III time in the 200 meter dash with a 22.21 seconds, placing 19th overall.

The Quaker men also claimed the top Division III 4×400 meter relay time. The tandem of C.J. Green, Rothfuss, Evans, and Johnny Sumner placed fourth overall with a time of 3:26.72, the third-fastest in school history.

Sommer Fanney (Burlington, N.C./Williams) claimed the best overall finish for the women, placing 13th in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:32.74. The time was the fifth-best Division III time and the fifth-fastest in school history.

Molly Anne Marcotte claimed 14th overall in the 1,500 meter run with the third-best Division III time at 5:26.12. The finish is also the sixth-best in school history.

The Quaker women 4×400 meter relay team of Khadija Carr, Sydney MacDonald (Greensboro, N.C/Western Guilford), Tess Stryk, and Fanney produced the third-best Division III finish at 4:31.72, the fourth-best time in school history.

A’Lexus Newkirk led Guilford’s sprinters, finishing with the seventh-best Division III time in the 100 meter dash at 13.82 seconds, the fifth-best in school history. Newkirk also claimed the third-best 200 meter time in school history, finishing with a time of 29.16 seconds.

The Quakers now gear up for the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Championship meet, which takes place next Friday and Saturday at Bridgewater College’s Jopson Field.
