College Men’s Golf News – Guilford’s Palmer Wins Third ODAC Player of the Week Honor

FOREST, Va. – Guilford College’s Ty Palmer (Kernersville, N.C./Forsyth Country Day) earned his third Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men’s Golfer of the Week Award of the season Monday. The sophomore is one of three Quakers so honored this year. Teammate Harrison Frye (High Point, N.C./High Point Central) collected last week’s prize.

Palmer, a sophomore, earned all-tournament honors by virtue of his sixth-place finish at the Emory Spring Invitational April 6-7 in Georgia. He shot 73-73-146 at the 36-hole event that featured seven teams ranked among the top-25 squads in the latest Golfstat.com Division III Head-to-Head Ratings. Palmer’s play in the 72-man field helped the 11th-ranked Quakers share third place with second-ranked LaGrange College among 13 schools represented. Palmer averaged 4.25 and shot six-under-par for the tournament on par-five holes.

Palmer has had the Quakers’ lowest score at each of the team’s four spring events and in five of the team’s nine tournaments this season. His sixth-place finish at the Emory Spring Invitational marked his fourth top-seven finish of the year. He has a 74.60 stroke average over 20 rounds, which stands second on the team and fourth in the ODAC. Palmer was ranked 50th in Golfstat’s April 8 NCAA Division III Head-to-Head Player Standings.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s Quakers are tuning up for this weekend’s ODAC Championships April 19-21 at the Rock Barn Golf Club in Conover, North Carolina. The tournament winner earns the league’s automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships, which Guilford will co-host with the Greensboro Sports Commission May 12-15 at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center in Greensboro.
