HPU Women’s Golf Tied For Seventh At Big South Championships

• High Point is tied for seventh after shooting a combined 326 in the first round of the Big South Women’s Golf Championship.
• Junior Tan Cheeranont, sophomore Danielle Fuss and freshman Cayla Smith are all tied for the top score on the team with 18-hole scores of 81.

GEORGETOWN, S.C. – The High Point University women’s golf team finished the first day of the Big South Women’s Golf Championship in a tie for seventh out of nine teams after shooting a combined 326 on Tuesday at the DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, S.C.

Junior Tan Cheeranont, sophomore Danielle Fuss and freshman Cayla Smith all tied for the Panthers’ top score on the day with each carding an 81 to finish in a tie for 27th. Junior Casey Ward shot an 83 and is tied for 33rd while senior Grier Bennett is tied for 41st with a score of 88.

Coastal Carolina leads the race for the team title with a combined score of 301 after the first round. The Chanticleers lead by 13 strokes over Gardner-Webb and Campbell which both finished with matching scores of 314. Radford (315) and Winthrop (321) round out the top five.

The Chanticleers’ Malene Krolboll Hansen sits atop the individual standings with an even-par 72 through 18 holes. She holds a one-stroke lead over teammate Lena Schaeffner. Campbell’s Nadine White and Radford’s Larissa Carter are tied for third with matching scores of 74.

High Point will tee off in the second and final round of the Big South Women’s Championship on Wednesday, April 14, at 8:30 a.m., on the 10th hole. The Panthers will be in groups that include Charleston Southern and Presbyterian College.
