College Baseball Final: Roanoke 6, Guilford 0

SALEM, Va.—Roanoke College’s Cameron Holshouser threw a complete-game three-hit as Guilford College dropped a Wednesday night Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest to Roanoke, 6-0.

Holshouser (4-3) struck out five and walked three as the Maroons rode him on the mound while completing a three-hitter.

The Quakers (11-21, 7-13 ODAC) had opportunities at multiple parts of the contest, including the top of the second inning, where the Quakers loaded the bases on a A.J. Girting single and a pair of walks all with one out. Holshouser accumulated the final two outs of the inning, back-to-back, to retire the Quakers. Michael Pinkston gave the Quakers life in the top of the ninth inning with a single up the middle to place runners at the corners with two outs, but Holshouser recorded the final out to close out the contest.

Cal Hodgert drove in two runs for the Maroons while Will Decker led the Maroons at the plate, batting 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and one RBI. Will Black was the remaining Maroon with multiple hits, batting 2-for-5 with one RBI.

Darin Salter (3-2) took the loss for the Quakers giving up just one earned run in five and two-thirds innings on five hits. Salter struck out and walked five batters. Nick Blackwood (Greensboro, N.C./Wesleyan Christian Academy) threw one and one-third innings scoreless and hitless while striking out one in relief. Justin Morrison (High Point, N.C/High Point Christian) struck out two in the final inning.

The Quakers begin a three-game stretch with William Peace University over the weekend, beginning with a road contest at the USA Baseball Training Facility against the Pacers Friday at 4 p.m. in Cary, N.C.
