HPU Women’s Golf Ties For Seventh At The Big South Championship

• High Point finished tied for seventh with a score of 653 at the 2015 Big South Women’s Golf Championship.
• The Panthers shot a combined 327 in the second and final round of the tournament.
• Sophomore Danielle Fuss carded a 78 for the round and finished 12th with a score of 159.

GEORGETOWN, S.C. – The High Point University women’s golf team shot 327 in the second and final round of the 2015 Big South Women’s Golf Championship to finish in a tie for seventh out of nine teams with a total combined score of 653 (326-327) on Wednesday at the DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, S.C.

The Panthers competed with just four golfers in the final round of the Big South Championship after senior Grier Bennett was forced to withdraw. Sophomore Danielle Fuss was High Point’s top scorer on the day with a six-over 78 to finish 12th with a 36-hole score of 159 (81-78).

Junior Tan Cheeranont carded an 81 for the second-straight day and ended the event in a tie for 15th with a score of 162 (81-81). Freshman Cayla Smith finished in a tie for 19th with a two-round score of 163 (81-82) after shooting an 82 for the day while junior Casey Ward turned in a score of 86 for the round to finish in 33rd with a total score of 169 (83-86).

Coastal Carolina claimed the team championship with a total combined score of 614 (301-313). The championship is the fourth in the past seven years for the Chanticleers. Campbell finished second with a total score of 630 (314-316) while Radford posted its best-ever finish in the event at third with a score of 638 (315-323).

Lena Schaeffner moved up from second to claim the individual title over teammate Malene Krolboll Hansen with a two-over 74 on Wednesday to finish with a 36-hole score of 147, one-stroke ahead of Hansen (72-76). Radford’s Larissa Carter finished in third in the event with a two-round total of 152 (74-78).

The 2015 Big South Women’s Golf Championship marks the end of the 2014-15 season for the Panthers.
