GREENSBORO, N.C. – Trey Mabry’s bases-clearing double in the bottom of the third inning powered Guilford College to claim the lead over Piedmont College as the Quakers never looked back, claiming a Tuesday afternoon victory, 7-3.

Piedmont claimed an early 3-0 lead after two and a half innings, but the Quakers answered back with four-run inning in the bottom half of the frame, led by Mabry’s bases-clearing double. The Quakers added a run in the fourth when Tyler Petersen drove home A.J. Girting with a RBI-triple, who reached on a two-out walk after a long delay when both teams had changed sides after a pre-mature strikeout call. Both sides dueled in the rest of the middle innings, trading one run each inning before the Quakers added one more insurance run to seal the victory.

Girting finished 2-for-2, entering the game in the bottom of the third inning, with a double and two RBI. Logan Jones and Jacob Roberts combined to bat 4-for-7 in the bottom of the order, the remaining Quakers with multi-hit efforts.

Breck Davidson led the Lions, batting 2-for-4 with three RBI, including the games first two runs to take an early lead. Evan Gresham led the Lions, batting 3-for-4 while Keith Grabowski was the remaining Lion with multiple hits, batting 2-for-4.

Darin Salter (4-2) took the win for the Quakers, striking out two and walking one while giving up three runs on eight hits in five innings. Nick Blackwood collected his first save of the season, only yielding one hit while fanning and walking one batter in four innings to preserve the win.

Alex Astin (0-1) took the loss for the Lions, giving up four runs on two hits while striking out and walking two batters in three innings. Allen Tokarz led the bullpen, throwing one and two-thirds innings, giving up just three hits and striking out two.
