Cole Aker was on the mound for NW Guilford and he turned in a dominating performance to pick up the win. Aker struck out 8 Tigers in a row to start the game and ended up with 17 K’s for the night while shutting Ragsdale out. The Tigers threatened in the fourth when they got an infield single off the first baseman’s glove from Alec Cobb and a single into CF from Cesar Trejo to put runners on first and second with one out. Aker then struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam. In the seventh, the Tigers again put runners on first and second with one out on a Lipke single and a hit batter, but again Aker got back to back strike outs to end the game.

Connor Burrows was on the mound for Ragsdale and he pitched well but got no run support. Northwest got an unearned run in the first when leadoff hitter Trey Walker got on board on an error and eventually scored on a Hunter Malone two out base hit. Burrows then shut the Vikings out before giving up a single to Michael Garvey in the sixth and after stealing second, Garvey scored on a Max Beck basehit. That was all the runs Aker would need to record Northwest’s tenth win of the season.

  1. Aker is a stud ! That kid deserve every compliment , awared, etc. There are only 21 outs in a game and 17 of them are on K’s! Thats domination. UNC might as well forget about having him next year – he will be drafted . Get in minor leagues and work with pro coaches – he will be in the bigs in 5 years.

  2. This was the most dominating performance I’ve seen on the HS level.. His fastball was around 91-92 with a lot of movement!

  3. Aker was very impressive.. Not sure where Ragsdale got 4 hits? There was blooper a 1 legitimate line drive base hit all night.

  4. Not sure what ORYA talking about?? I didn’t see a line drive hit all night. There were 3 hits, a blooper over short stop, infield hit, and a blooper up the middle and maybe there was a butt that was counted as a hit.

  5. In 7th, there was a nice single up the middle by Colin Lipke, who played with a broken Bone in his hand. Summer teammates and friends meeting up for last time in high school (perhaps)… High school baseball as it was meant to be!

  6. Great to see Lipke back in that lineup! This kid definitely has a passion for the game!

  7. Andy, it’s refreshing to hear some positive comments about these HS players. I’m shocked that that Ragsdale kid is back playing after having hand surgery.
