Elon Phoenix Biggest Mover on Day Two of CAA Men’s Golf Championship

SOUTHPORT, N.C. – The Elon men’s golf team was the biggest mover on day two of the 2015 CAA Men’s Golf Championship as the Phoenix gained three positions and will enter the third and final round in a tie for fourth place with a score of 602 (312-290).

Elon’s second round mark of 290 was the lowest round of the tournament for any of the nine teams.

Individually, Jonathan DiIanni jumped 12 places thanks to a three-under 69 on Saturday. Coupled with his round of 77 on Friday, DiIanni is tied for fourth wiht a 146 and is four strokes off the lead. DiIanni began his second round on hole number 10 and was four-over through seven holes on the day. He then birdied both 17 and 18 to make the turn at two-over. After three straight pars, DiIanni notched birdies on five of his final six holes of the day.

Charlie May moved up nine places into a tie for 12th at 150 after he carded an even-par round of 72 on Saturday. May had two bogeys, two birdies and 14 pars on day two.

Will DiIanni’s 154 (78-76) places him in a tie for 23rd. He had three birdies and an eagle in his second round.

One stroke back in a tie for 27th is Troy Beaver. Beaver, who gained eight places on the leaderboard, knocked nine strokes off of his first-round score of 82 on Saturday. The 73 has him at 155 overall. He birdied four holes during his second 18 holes of the tournament.

Jake Leavitt’s 160 (79-81) has the freshman tied for 39th. He had two birides on Saturday.

Defending champion College of Charleston (293-293–586) continues to lead and holds a 12 shot edge on James Madison with one round remaining.

CofC’s John Jonas has a one-shot lead on the individual leaderboard. Jonas has a two-round mark of 142 (70-72).

Round three will be played at The Reserve Club at St. James Plantation on Saturday.
