HPU’s Miller Wins Men’s Vault Title At Highlander Invite

RADFORD, Va. – Junior Austin Miller won his ninth pole vault title of the 2014-15 season to lead the High Point University men’s track & field team at the Highlander Invitational this weekend.

Miller’s vault of 4.91m (15-9.5) Friday secured the Herndon, Va., native his third vault crown of the outdoor season. Freshman Todd Uckermark tied for fourth with a vault of 4.61m (15-1.5) and redshirt-senior decathlete Tristan Faure was ninth with a mark of 4.31m (14-1.5).

Junior Will Narramore posted a strong second place finish in the long jump to lead the Panthers in the event. The Nashville product posted a mark of 6.80m (22-4) to secure the second place spot on Friday. In addition, Faure was fifth with a mark of 6.58m (21-7) and junior Adam DeVito finished sixth (6.57m, 21-6.5).

Sophomore decathlete Eric Purnell finished second in the 100m dash Saturday with a season-best time of 11.44 seconds while Faure was seventh in 11.91. Freshman Matt Hollis placed ninth in 12.22 seconds. Purnell also placed fourth in the 400m dash (55.66) and Hollis was sixth in 59.18.

Junior Nick Hula finished fourth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 57.83 seconds to wrap up weekend competition for the Panthers.

HPU will have a respite from competition next weekend and will return to action May 6-7 at the Duke Twilight event in Durham, N.C.
