Elon Softball Phoenix Drops Series Finale at #22/23 Dukes

HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison’s freshman pitcher Megan Good tossed her first career no-hitter as the Elon University softball team fell to the No. 22/23 ranked Dukes, 8-0, in the Colonial Athletic Association series finale on Sunday, April 26, at Veterans Memorial Park.

Good went 6.0 innings with a pair of walks and six strikeouts to improve to 24-0 on the year with JMU (40-6, 17-0 CAA) extending its overall winning streak to 31 games. The Phoenix fell to 26-20 and 8-10 in the league standings with its fifth straight defeat.

Chelsea White (5-2) took the loss for the Phoenix, going 5.0 innings with seven hits and seven runs allowed along with five walks and two strikeouts.

The Rundown: Good helped her caused in the circle with the first RBI of the game on a double to right field in the bottom of the first. JMU increased its lead to 2-0 after a RBI single to right by pinch hitter Jessica Mrozek in the bottom of the fourth inning. Another RBI single off the bat of Erica Field in the bottom of the fifth put the Dukes ahead 4-0. In the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded and no outs, JMU’s Alyssa Buddle capitalized with a two-RBI single up the middle to push the score to 5-0. The Dukes closed out the game with three more scores in the sixth including two runs off bases loaded walks to end the contest 8-0.

Inside the Box Score: Only four base runners reached on the day for the Phoenix with two advancing as far as second…Hannah Olson and Emily Cameron reached base due to base on balls…Kiandra Mitchum also reached base on an error and advanced to second in the second inning…Cameron picked up her sixth stolen base of the year.

Notes of Interest: This is the second time that the Phoenix has been no hit this season…Elon also failed to record a hit at Charlotte on March 11…Alaina Hall saw her season-high hit streak snapped at 11…The maroon and gold fell to 0-5 this season in games against ranked opponents.

On Deck: Elon closes out its non-conference schedule with a single-game versus North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, April 28. The contest is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at Hunt Softball Park.
