RADFORD, Va. – The High Point University baseball team took the series finale against Radford with a 4-1 win on Sunday afternoon in Radford, Va. Freshman Carson Jackson went 3-5 with two doubles for the Panthers.

“I think this club showed some real toughness today,” head coach Craig Cozart said. “The way we lost the first two games of this series was as difficult as you could draw up. Today we got some key two-out RBI, quality pitching on the mound and great performances out of the back of our bullpen. I am glad we were able to come out and get a win after the way we lost the first two.”

Senior Conor Lourey improved to 2-1 with the win over the Highlanders. Lourey pitched six innings and allowed one earned run on six hits and four walks with six strikeouts.

Junior Tyler Britton pitched 2-2/3 scoreless innings to earn his first HPU save. Britton gave up just one hit and one walk while striking out one.

Mitch MacKeith took the loss for Radford and dropped to 5-4 on the season. MacKeith pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs on nine hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The Panthers move to 22-20 overall and 10-8 in the Big South with the win. Radford drops to 28-14 overall and 14-4 in the Big South.

High Point scored a run in the first inning for the third-straight game and took an early 1-0 lead. Singles by Jackson and sophomore Josh Greene put runners on the corners and a wild pitch allowed Jackson to score from third.

After Radford tied the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Chris Coia, the Panthers came back with a run in the third to back up 2-1. Senior Spencer Angelis reached with a single and came around to score on an infield single by senior Tony Fortier-Bensen.

High Point added to its lead with a run in the fifth and another in the sixth to go up 4-1. Jackson led off the inning with a double to the wall in center then came around to score on an opposite field single by Greene. Jackson hit his second double in as many innings in the sixth to drive in sophomore Chris Clare who was hit by a pitch.

Jackson went 3-5 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs scored. Greene recorded multiple hits for the third time in the weekend, going 3-5 with an RBI. Angelis and senior Dane McDermott both had two hits in the win for HPU.

High Point next takes on Wake Forest in a midweek home-and-home series beginning on Tuesday, April 28. The Panthers and Demon Deacons will face off in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Tuesday and at Williard Stadium on Wednesday.
