HPU MLAX: Lomas, Piluso Sweep SoCon Weekly Honors

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Juniors Dan Lomas and Jamie Piluso of the High Point University men’s lacrosse team swept the Southern Conference Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Tuesday.

Lomas and Piluso helped the Panthers send their 17 seniors out in style with a thrilling 10-9 win over Bellarmine on Saturday, April 25 in Vert Stadium.

Piluso controlled the game going 17-of-21 (.810) in the face-off circle and picked up nine ground balls. The Ridgewood, N.J. native also dished out an assist en route to earning Defensive Player of the Week honors. Piluso is the only player in the league to win both the offensive and defensive honors after winning Offensive Player of the Week on March 31.

For the second time this season, Lomas scored six goals to tie his own program record for goals in a game. He originally set the mark on March 6, 2013 against Michigan and repeated the feat on Feb. 14, 2015 against St. Joseph’s The Burlington, Ontario native is the fifth different Panther to win Offensive Player of the Week accolades in 2015.

High Point and Richmond finished the season tied with eight player of the week selections.

The Purple & White will enter the SoCon tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play No. 2 Mercer on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Richmond, Va.
