Elon Softball Quartet Receives All-CAA Honors:Kara Shutt(Southeast Guilford HS) does it again

RICHMOND, Va. – The Colonial Athletic Association announced its 2015 All-CAA teams on Tuesday, May 5, with four members of the Elon University softball team – Alaina Hall, Hannah Olson, Kara Shutt(Southeast Guilford High School) and Emily Roper – receiving all-conference accolades from the league.

Hall was placed on the All-CAA second team, the second straight year that the sophomore has received second team all-conference honors. The Suwanee, Ga., native led the Phoenix with a .360 average during the regular season, including a .418 mark during CAA play. She also paces the team in hits, triples and stolen bases while setting a new single-season personal-best in RBI with 24. She had a season-high 11-game hit streak this year and has 20 multi-hit games including a 3-for-3 performance versus Atlantic Coast Conference foe NC State as Elon defeated the Wolfpack, 3-2.

Olson and Shutt were placed on the CAA All-Rookie team. Olson has started all 44 games she has appeared in at shortstop and is tied for second on the team in average (.338) and has had 12 multi-hit games during her rookie campaign to go along with 10 doubles. The Yorktown, Va., native was named the league’s Player of the Week on Feb. 24 after helping the Phoenix to a 4-0 weekend at the Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla., on Feb. 21-22. She is also second on the team in runs scored with 31.

Shutt has played and started all 50 games for the maroon and gold this year and leads the team with 39 RBI, the most for an Elon freshman at the Division I level. She is also tied for second on the team with a .338 average and has had 14 multi-hit games. She drove in a season-high five RBI in the Phoenix’s 11-2 win over North Carolina A&T on April 28, and was selected as the CAA Player of the Week on March 30.

Roper was honored as the Phoenix representative on the league’s All-Academic team. The sophomore human service studies major leads the team with seven home runs and is second on the squad with 31 RBI and slugging percentage at .488. She also has drawn a team-high 17 walks and received 16 hit-by-pitches.

The Phoenix opens the CAA Softball Championship tournament as the No. 3 seed versus No. 2 seed Hofstra on Wednesday, May 6, at 3 p.m., in Harrisonburg, Va.
