HPU Baseball Drops Final Non-Conference Game at Davidson, 17-4

• High Point lost at Davidson by a score of 17-4 in the Panthers’ final non-conference game of the season.
• Sophomore Chris Clare went 3-4 with an RBI in the loss for HPU.
• Freshman Spencer Brown made his HPU debut and went 2-3 in the contest.

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University baseball team fell by a score of 17-4 on the road at Davidson on Wednesday night in Davidson, N.C. Sophomore Chris Clare had three hits in the loss for HPU.

Freshman Carson Jackson struggled in his second start of the season, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 1-1/3 inning pitched. The freshman dropped to 1-1 on the season.

Clark Beeker earned the win for Davidson and improved to 6-3 for the season. Beeker pitched five scoreless innings and allowed just four hits while striking out two.

High Point drops to 23-22 with the loss to the Wildcats who improve to 24-19 in 2015.

Davidson scored four runs in the second and three in the third to take a 7-0 lead over the Panthers. Cam Johnson and Ty Middlebrooks drove in the first two runs of the game and an RBI double by Sam Foy plated the final two runs in the second. One inning later, Middlebrooks nearly doubled the Wildcat lead with a three-run home run.

The Wildcats added a run in the fourth, five runs in the sixth and four runs in the seventh to go ahead by a score of 17-0. David Daniels provided the big hit in the sixth for Davidson with a three-run home, his 10th of the season.

High Point scored four runs in the eighth to make the score 17-4. Senior Brady Williamson
drove in HPU’s first runs of the night with a pinch-hit double in the eighth to score two runs. Sophomore Tim Mansfield and Jackson scored on the play after reaching on a single and a double to leadoff the inning. Williamson then came around to score on an RBI single by senior Tony Fortier-Bensen. Clare drove in the final run of the inning with an RBI double, his third hit of the game.

Clare finished 3-4 with one RBI and Jackson finished 2-5 with a run scored. Freshman Spencer Brown appeared in a game for the first time this season and went 2-3 at the plate.

High Point returns to Williard Stadium for the final home series of the season this weekend when they play host to UNC Asheville. The series will begin on Friday, May 8, at 6 p.m.
