Just a well-played game today between the Southeast Guilford Falcons and the Page Pirates today and this was the best effort by team vs. SEG that I have seen this season, with the exception of the Wesleyan Trojans vs. SEG….Page played SEG hard and they played them well today and Page was in this game due to the effort of the Pirates’ pitcher Kevin Westlake, who went the distance….Just a well-played game with these two teams in the finals today and Page made a couple of base running mistakes that cost them a run or two, but this game was just one thing, most of the day and that is tight…It was tight all afternoon and SEG could really never put Page completely away and was due to good effort from both of these two clubs and the kids are to be commended for their effort today….Page was in this game today and we will say it again and again, the Pirate pitcher Kevin Westlake gave his team a chance to win, but when it mattered and they had to have them, Southeast Guilford came up with the big hits and they did their job on defense…

Excellent glove play by Justin Guy for Southeast Guilford in right field took a possible run off of the board for Page and then Guy threw back to first base to double-off the runner from Page their and SEG gets the double-play and the runner has to hold at third and he can’t get in to score for Page…Just a big fly ball play all the way around by Justin Guy for SEG…

On the home run by Southeast Guilford’s DJ Artis, Walton Chamblee in right field for Page looked to have the ball in his glove on the long fly ball to right by Artis, but when Chamblee went up and put his glove up and over the fence in right field, the ball appeared to be in his glove and then come out over the fence, a very close defensive play and very good defensive effort by Chamblee right then and there….

Troy Lake from Page had made an unreal play on a semi-soft liner toward third that went by the out-stretched glove of Pirate third baseman Stanford Shell and Lake made a diving grab of ball hit by SEG’s Forrest Brothers to make the very big defensive play for Page right there…

There were some very fine plays by both teams on defense today and the play by Justin Guy(SEG) may have been the biggest because it kept a potential two runs off of the board by Page, in what was at the time a 2-0 lead for SEG…Just a big play by Justin who laid out and went down to make the catch of the fly ball off of the bat of Pirate Harrison Kiser…

Back to the pitching here is the overall rundown:
Southeast Guilford:
Tommy Michaels(WP)…went 4 Innings/0 Runs/4 Hits/1 BB/4 K’s…
Austin Coble…1 Inning/0 Runs/0 Hits/1 K
Chris Scheibly… 1 Inning/0 Runs/0 Hits
Thorn Alley…1 Inning/O Runs/0 Hits/2 BB’s

Page:
Kevin Westlake(LP)6 Innings/3 Runs/4 Hits/5 K’s/1 BB/1 HR

+++++That’s all we have here for today and just again, a well-played game with no drama and you have to tip your cap to the effort from Westlake and to SEG’s Ryne Stanley, DJ Artis and Carmine Pagano for coming up with those very big hits for the Falcons and to Justin Guy from SEG for his fine defensive play in right field for Southeast Guilford…Hot day, but time well spent watching these two Metro teams go at it today and I do think Page can compete with lot of teams with Westlake on the hill/mound/bump or whatever you want to call it…

Playoffs will crank up for these two teams and for our other area teams, on either Wednesday or Tuesday of next week…Again, we have to send out a big Congratulations to the Southeast Guilford Falcons on another Metro 4-A Conference Championship and in 2015, the Falcons are once up at the top of heap…*****

+++++We may have missed something and if we did, send it our way and we will add-on…Hope to have a more detailed version of the game coming in over the next 24 hours from our man on the scene, Wyatt Smith….+++++

  1. Go Trojans and Cougars. Two great teams that should meet in the State Finals.
