Elon Baseball Drops Rain-Shortened Game at East Carolina

ELON, N.C. – The 2015 regular season finale for the Elon baseball squad saw the Phoenix come out on the wrong end of a 7-0 score at East Carolina on Tuesday night. The game was ended after the seventh inning due to thunderstorms.

Elon concludes the regular season with a record of 24-27, while ECU improved to 33-20.

Elon mustered just two hits, one each from Ryan Cooper and Nick Zammarelli.

Hunter Allen paced the Pirates by going 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI.

Making his first career start on the mound, Casey Jones (0-1) took the loss. He allowed seven runs on five hits in 3.1 innings.

The win went to David Lucroy (3-4) who allowed just one hit and two walks in five frames.

Up next: The Phoenix will begin play in the 2015 CAA Tournament on Wednesday, May 20. Elon will either be seeded third or fourth depending on the outcome of the College of Charleston-Northeastern series.

How it happened: ECU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Hunter Allen led off with a walk and moved to third on Charlie Yorgen’s single. Reid Love then picked up the RBI on a fielder’s choice to third. The Pirates added two in the second and four in the fourth.

Inside the box score: Elon was just 1-for-11 with runners on base … Cooper had two outfield assists in the game.
