ATHLETES FROM SOUTHERN GUILFORD, MIDDLE CREEK EARN NCHSAA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL — Kylie McMillan of Southern Guilford High School and Nick Stachowiak of Middle Creek High School in Apex are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

McMillan had an outstanding performance last weekend in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3-A track and field championships, leading her team to the championship and earning Most Valuable Performer honors in the process. McMillan won the individual state title in both the 100 high hurdles and the 300 hurdles while finishing second in the 200 and fourth in the 100.

Stachowiak stormed his way to the NCHSAA state 4-A tennis championship in men’s singles, earning four victories last weekend including a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 triumph over Clayton’s Klein Evans in the championship match. In his first two state tournament matches, he did not even lose a single game.

The Middle Creek standout earned the 2013 state singles crown but missed the ’14 campaign with an injury before coming back and winning again.

TWC SportsChannel typically announces the winners of the awards during a SportsNight show and will recognize the winners throughout the week. Weekly recipients are also recognized via Twitter and Facebook.
