Elon’s Shutt (SEG) Lands on NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Softball Teams

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Freshman outfielder Kara Shutt (Southeast Guilford) of the Elon University softball team received a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region teams as announced by the association earlier today, May 14.

Shutt was placed on Mid-Atlantic All-Region third team and becomes the first Elon freshmen to earn All-Region honors since Tomeka Watson (2010-13) in 2010.

The all-region honor is the latest accolade for Shutt from an impressive rookie campaign. The Greensboro, N.C., native had one of the better seasons from a freshman in program history leading the team with 44 RBI, the second-best single-season total in school history. She paced the squad in slugging percentage (.521), runs scored (35) and doubles (14) while tied for second on the team in average (.331) and second overall hits (56) and triples (three) while appearing in and starting all 53 games.

Along with the NFCA All-Region honor, Shutt was also tabbed to the Colonial Athletic Association’s All-Rookie team and made the league’s All-Tournament team from its postseason tournament. She was also tabbed as the CAA Player and Rookie of the Week during the course of the season.

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each respective region and all the honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three 2015 NFCA Division I All-American teams.

  1. Congratulation to Kara and the Shutt family. One of the hardest working & most dedicated athletes to train in my clinic. Funny how success follows hard work, dedication and passion. Good luck!! HWPO
