In Competition on Sunday
The Phoenix will send the group of Jen Esposito (400-meters), Sydney Griffin (100-meter hurdles), Bryanna Hames (discus), Kimberly Johansen (800-meters), Megan Kirschling (high jump), Tereza Novotna (1,500-meters) and Bre’anna Warren (discus) to compete on Sunday. A few of the athletes will look for a chance to improve their times or marks in their respective events to earn a spot for the NCAA East Preliminaries.

Last Time Out
The Phoenix last competed at the Duke Twilight meet last week, May 6-7. Esposito broke her school-record in the 400-meter hurdles after clocking a 57.75 in the race. It was the second time this season the Mansfield, Mass., native broke her own school-record in the event during the outdoor season.

Griffin finished fourth in the 100-meters after the Marietta, Ga., native ran a season-best time of 13.66. Hames also had a fourth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 157′ 6″ (48.01m) while Warren was eighth after a heave of 147′ 8″ (45.00m).

NCAA East Preliminaries
Elon will look to send a group to the NCAA East Preliminary round on May 28-30 in Jacksonville, Fla., for the second consecutive year. The Phoenix currently has six athletes in competition to qualify for the meet, which takes the top-48 times or marks from each respective event. Last year, the maroon and gold sent a program-record five athletes to the preliminary round with three – Esposito, Griffin and Kirschling – returning this year.

Currently, Esposito sits 12th on the East Outdoor Qualifying list in the 400-meter hurdles, the highest position for an Elon athlete on the performance list. Kirschling is 23rd in the high jump and Novotna is 38th in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Johansen is 51st in the 1,500-meters while Griffin in 52nd in the 100-meter hurdles. Hames is 54th in the discus throw with Warren not too far behind at 67th.
