HiToms Announce New Head Coach Brian Rountree

The Hitoms organization has announced that Brian Rountree will be the new Head Coach of the High Point – Thomasville HiToms. Former Coach Brandon Haygood has stepped down due to personal family matters.

“All of us are very concerned about Brandon and his family and we understand his decision,” said HiToms President Greg Suire. “Going forward we are very fortunate to have Brian Rountree to assume the role as our head coach. With head coaching experience in the Coastal Plain League and over 21 years of head coaching experience under his belt, the HiToms organization is very confident in Brain’s ability as our field manager said Suire.”

This will be Rountree’s second stint as the HiToms head coach. In 2001, Rountree skippered the HiToms to a 23-27 record. Serving 19 years as an assistant at Louisiana Tech, Rountree’s pitching squad posted the Bulldogs’ lowest team ERA since 1993 at 4.71 despite playing nine games versus teams that advanced to the College World Series As a player at USC Rountree had a single-season strikeout total of 125 (1988) that still ranks as seventh best on USC’s single season total. Rountree also spent two years in the Detroit Tigers farm system.

“I am excited about the upcoming season and privileged to be apart of such a historic baseball organization, said Brian Rountree. As a long time friend of Brandon I have nothing but respect for him and completely understand his decision to step down. Looking ahead I am excited to step up and into the head coaching position and win another Petitt Cup for the HiToms said Rountree.”
