HPU Baseball’s Josh Greene and Spencer Angelis Earn All-Big South Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Sophomore Josh Greene and senior Spencer Angelis earned All-Big South honors the conference announced on Monday. Greene was named first-team All-Conference while Angelis was named to the second team.

Senior Will Resnik was also honored by the conference as a member of the Big South All-Academic Team.

“We are very proud that Josh Spencer and Will have all been recognized by the Big South Conference,” head coach Craig Cozart said. “They represent us tremendously with their on the field play and they represent both us and the University in a great way off the field. These guys have been vital to our success on the field. They provide us with leadership and energy as we play the game.”

Greene leads High Point this season with a .351 batting average, six home runs, 35 RBI and 13 steals. He is ranked sixth in the Big South in batting average, sixth in on-base percentage and ninth in slugging percentage. He is one of two players in the conference to rank in the top 10 in all three categories along with Radford infielder Josh Gardiner. In conference play, Greene is hitting .395 with 23 RBI and 17 runs scored. He is fourth in the Big South in conference batting average, fourth in RBI and on-base percentage and eighth in slugging percentage.

“Josh Greene being named first-team All-Conference is well deserved,” Cozart said. “Josh has really improved his game in many aspects, especially at the plate where he is hitting over .350. He also continues to be one of the best defensive centerfielders in the nation. His daily aggression sets a great tone for us as a team.”

Angelis is the first HPU player to earn three All-Big South nods after previously being named to the first team in 2013 and 2014. The HPU first baseman is hitting .333 with 11 doubles, three home runs, 21 RBI and 28 runs scored. Angelis is third in the Big South with a .418 batting average in conference play as well as third in the conference with a .471 on-base percentage and fourth in the conference with a .608 slugging percentage. The senior has reached base in all but two games he has played in this season and leaves HPU as one of the Panthers’ all-time leaders in career batting average and hits.

“Spencer being named to the All-Conference team for the third time in his career is a tremendous testament to his dedication and ability on the baseball field,” Cozart said. “Spencer has been part of the heart and soul of this team for four years. We are proud of his daily contributions to the game.”

Resnik graduated from High Point this spring with a 3.815 GPA in Political Science. He has appeared in 19 games with two starts for the Panthers this season and is 2-0 with a 4.12 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched. Resnik is a four-time Millis Scholar-Athlete and a three-time Big South Presidential Honor Roll member who was recently awarded the Big South Graduate Fellowship.

“It is great to see Will Resnik recognized for what he does in the classroom but he has been tremendous on the field as well,” Cozart said. “I am very pleased to see Will go out on top both on the baseball field and in the classroom.”

High Point has earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Big South Baseball Championship presented by Hardee’s and Enterprise Rent A Car and will take on No. 4 Liberty in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, May 19, in Boiling Springs, N.C. The game between the Panthers and Flames will be the second game of the evening session and will begin approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the game between No, 1 Radford and No. 8 Longwood, which is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
