Jalen Spicer, Northwest Guilford point guard, in the Class of 2017 received his first college offer today with the offer coming from Florida International University/FIU….
Spicer, along with fellow guards Jaylin Gore and Tre Turner, led the Vikings deep into the playoffs this past season and also led the Vikings to the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference regular season title, plus an appearance in the Haeco Invitational Tournament finals….
NWG was led Spicer, Gore, Turner and senior Sam Covington, plus sophomore post man Reggie Davis this past 2014/2015 season….
Good job Jalen Spicer and you know for sure that more offers are on the way, it is just a matter of time….
D1 out of northwest guilford. You don’t need private schools to get recruited. Play for a good aau organization. Work hard on and off the court like Jalen does and good things will happen.
What does NW do to help get kids recruited to college basketball? Neither the girls or boys colleges have any relationships with college coaches beyond the local obvious schools such as A&T, Guilford, WSSU or UNCG. The private schools simply have a greater reach and contacts. I don’t ever see any of the NW coaches on the AAU scene for tournaments or anything else. Jalen is the type of kid/player that you can’t ignore. He plays with outstanding energy and he has a great basketball IQ. The private schools would put him on a bigger stage against many more “great” players night after night. Other than when NW plays GDS in the Haeco or SW, you can’t name another school that has more than 1-2 great players. Unfortunately most great players are much better off playing in the private school setting. Football is the only sport that keeps a lot of these kids in the public school programs. Great job Mr Spicer!
