2015 Elon Volleyball Schedule Announced

ELON, N.C. – As the Elon volleyball team enters its second season in the Colonial Athletic Association, head coach Mary Tendler has announced the schedule for the upcoming 2015 season. This season marks the 43rd year of Elon volleyball and the 13th under Tendler. This season’s slate features matchups against two Atlantic Coast Conference programs, matches against four in-state non-conference opponents, as well as a 16-match CAA schedule.

“We are looking forward to the start of the 2015 season with a very experienced group of nine returners and six newcomers,” said Tendler. “The players worked hard in the off-season and have improved at every position. The competition in practice every day will be very intense starting with our first practice on August 10, which will prepare us for a challenging non-conference and CAA schedule.”

The Phoenix opens the season in the Radford University/Virginia Tech Invitational, which will feature matches played on both campuses. The 2015 opener will be against Washington State on Friday, August 28, on the campus of Radford, which will also be the first ever meeting between the Phoenix and the Cougars. On Saturday, August 29, Elon takes on both co-hosts with a match against VT at noon and another against the Highlanders at 7 p.m.

After traveling to High Point for a match on Sept. 1, the team welcomes Charleston Southern, North Carolina Central and Wake Forest to Alumni Gym for its annual Elon Phoenix Classic on Friday, Sept. 4 – Saturday, Sept. 5. Elon will play all three programs in the round-robin tournament, beginning with the Buccaneers at 7 p.m. on Sept. 4. The Phoenix takes on the Eagles and Demon Deacons at 12:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, the next day.

The maroon and gold remains home in Alumni Gym to host former Southern Conference foe Davidson at 8 p.m. on Sept. 8 before traveling to Valparaiso, Ind., for the Crusader Crossroads of America Classic on Sept. 11 – 12. The Phoenix will face four teams in the tournament with matches against Loyola and Valpo on Sept. 11 and Kennesaw State and Savannah State on Sept. 12.

The Phoenix faces another local rival in UNCG on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. in Alumni Gym before beginning conference play. Elon opens its 2015 CAA season on the road in Boston at Northeastern on Friday, Sept. 25, and then takes on reigning CAA champion Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y., on Sunday, Sept. 27.

The Phoenix begins a stretch of five straight home matches against James Madison on Friday, Oct. 2, and closes out the weekend against the Towson Tigers on Sunday, Oct. 4. The Cougars of CofC, the 2014 CAA regular-season champions, visit on Thursday, Oct. 8, for the first of three matches in four days for Elon. The team closes out the weekend against Delaware on Oct. 10 and UNCW on Oct. 11.

After a matchup in Williamsburg, Va., at William & Mary on Saturday, Oct. 17, the Phoenix returns home to close out its non-conference schedule against North Carolina A&T on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 7 p.m.

Elon makes the return trip to Towson and JMU on Oct. 23 and Oct. 24, respectively, before hosting the Tribe in Alumni Gym on Wednesday, Oct. 28. The maroon and gold finishes out October with a match on Halloween at Delaware at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The maroon and gold makes its final two trips of the regular season to CofC on Nov. 6 and UNCW on Nov. 7. This season, the Phoenix closes out the regular season at home the weekend of Nov. 13 – 15. After hosting the Hofstra Pride on Friday, Nov. 13, Elon plays the Huskies of Northeastern on Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.

The 2015 CAA Championships are scheduled for Nov. 20 – 23. The top six teams from the regular season make the championship, which is hosted by the No. 1 seed.
