NCHSAA Performance of Week

ATHLETES FROM LAKE NORMAN, CARDINAL GIBBONS EARN NCHSAA PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

CHAPEL HILL — Kieran Rinaldi of Lake Norman High School and Nick Forbes of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh are the winners of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Performance of the Week awards, powered by Time Warner Cable SportsChannel with Subway® Restaurants.

Each week one male and one female athlete in NCHSAA competition are selected for this award from nominations received from media and school administrators.

Rinaldi, a sophomore attack player, scored five goals and had an assist to lead Lake Norman to a thrilling 17-15 victory over Cardinal Gibbons in the NCHSAA women’s lacrosse championship. With the game tied at 14 at the end of regulation, Rinaldi had a pair of goals in overtime to lift Lake Norman to victory, its first state title in women’s lacrosse.

The Lady Wildcats ended the season with an 18-2 record.

Forbes, a senior, had a huge game in the 1A/2A/3A men’s lacrosse championship, scoring the winning goal in overtime as the Crusaders nipped Waxhaw Marvin Ridge 13-12 for their second straight state championship.

Forbes was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the final as he scored four goals and handed out seven assists, directly figuring in 11 of his team’s 13 goals as the Crusaders finished at 17-4 overall.
