Ryan Dull(East Forsyth HS/UNCA) still sharp while he is cutting down batters with the Midland RockHounds in the Texas League

Ryan Dull, from East Forsyth High School and the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs, is still cutting down batters with his sharp pitching skills and these days he is attacking the strike zone in the Texas League with the Double A Midland, Texas RockHounds….The RockHounds are the Class Double A affiliates for the Oakland A’s in the Texas League and at age 26, the former East Forsyth Eagle might just be getting warmed up good, as some of his former teammates and colleagues are calling it a career/calling it quits…

The word in and around Midland, Texas and around the Texas League on Ryan Dull, a young man from the Triad, that still has some wicked cutters, fastballs, sliders and changeups left in his Dull, although very impressive, approach to the plate…..

RockHounds manager Ryan Christenson knows he can count on Ryan Dull to lock down the late innings when games are close.

On Tuesday night, Christenson turned to Dull to pitch the ninth inning once Midland took an 8-6 lead over Tulsa on Carson Blair’s go-ahead, three-run triple in the bottom of the eighth. Dull responded by striking out the side to record his third save of the season.

Dull has emerged as Midland’s most dependable reliever this season with a microscopic 0.39 ERA. By comparison, no other current RockHounds pitcher boasts an ERA below 3.00.

In 23.1 innings, Dull has posted a splendid 32:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio while holding opposing batters to a paltry .176 average.

The right-hander entered Tuesday’s home game allowing the second-fewest base runners per nine innings (7.66) among all relievers in the Texas League.

Christenson said Dull succeeds because he is a strike thrower, first and foremost.
