Gastonia’s Sell Out Crowd Proved to be too Much for The HiToms

A three run ninth inning proved to be the dagger in the comeback as the Grizzlies singled in the bottom of the ninth to win in walk off fashion

GASTONIA, NC, – Sims Legion Park would have record numbers bringing in 4,409 fans for the Gastonia Grizzlies 4-3 victory.

The first 3 innings would result scoreless for the HiToms, as they would not get on the board until the top of the fourth. Scoring would begin with an Ellis (Louisville) double to left field that would plate Culler (WSSU) to tie the game. Then, after a wild pitch from Logan Cook, Ellis would come home to give the HiToms their first lead of the night.

Five innings would go by as the score would stay 2-1 in favor of the HiToms. Ellis would score in the top of the ninth off a Slater (Southern Mississippi) single. However the Grizzlies would fight back and win off a walk off single that would make it a 4-3 Gastonia Grizzlies victory.

McCue (UNC Chapel Hill) would make his debut for the HiToms grabbing seven strikeouts in the first six innings allowing only one run off one hit. Relief would come in the bottom of the seventh from Beaver (Akron University) who would strike out four but take the loss after allowing three runs in the bottom of the ninth.

The HiToms are back at home tomorrow night against the Kernersville Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m.
