Gate City FC Wins and So Does Ugandan School

Greensboro – The Gate City FC Generals defeated the Inter Cultural Alliance team from Raleigh 5-1 at Caldwell Academy in Greensboro on Saturday evening. Originally scheduled to play the Carolina Railhawks in a charity match to benefit the Amazima School in Neruda, Uganda, the Generals were pleased to host a Railhawks sponsored team. “The Railhawks are going through a tough time,” said Gate City president Justin Cox, “but they were gracious to help support our cause today. At the end of the day, we all support one another.”

Gate City opened the scoring in the 2nd minute as sprinting Jovani Echeverria received a perfectly weighted pass from Panguito Cortes and shot the ball past ICA goalkeeper Herman Valle. Two minutes later striker Brad Hatzes scoed the first of three goals on an Echeverria pass from close range in the box.

Hatzes added his second goal of the night in the 32nd minute, as the ICA goalkeeper deflected a Kevin Arguello shot into his path. His third came in the final two minutes of the half on a pass from Mamadou Sanchez to round out the Generals’ scoring at four for a halftime score of 4-0.

The second half saw ICA’s team come alive with a close range shot by John Nuobiose to close the score to 4-1 in the 68th minute. But Gate City’s Kevin Arguello put the final nail in the coffin in the 79th minute to give Gate City its second win in as many outings.

Final result 5-1 for Gate City FC.
