Northern Guilford Softball falls 10-0 in 5 Innings at UNCG:NCHSAA 3-A Softball Report

Just made the drive over to UNCG and as I drove past the softball field the scoreboard read 9-0 in favor of Enka and as I went to park and head in, I heard a roar come up from the crowd and then I saw some of the Northern Guilford students heading toward the UNCG parking lot and then I drove back past the scoreboard again and the score read 10-0 and it was in favor of Enka and Enka wins the NCHSAA 3-A State Softball Title, 10-0, over the Northern Guilford Nighthawks….

Northern Guilford finishes the season at (25-4) and the four losses came to Eastern Alamance, North Davidson and to Enka, two times….A junior-laden Nighthawk squad coached by Russell Dorrell and they should be back in a similar scenario next season, ready to make another run at a State Title, behind the senior pitching staff of Ashton Lambeth and Anne Tewksbury….

Not very often you can write one up on a drive-by report from you car, but this is just another example of how we can get you the sports news in Greensboro…

Was coming to UNCG from the Benjamin Parkway Library, where we were putting together the Saturday web site updates for GreensboroSports.com….

Final today from UNCG:
Enka 10
Northern Guilford 0 (5 Innings)
NG(25-4)/Enka(29-0)

CLASS 3-A SOFTBALL, GAME TWO: ENKA COMPLETES SWEEP WITH 10-0 WIN OVER NORTHERN GUILFORD

GREENSBORO — Jordan Harris had two hits and drove in three runs to lead an Enka 13-hit attack in a 10-0 victory over Northern Guilford on Saturday to sweep the North Carolina High School Athletic Association state 3-A softball championship series at the UNC Greensboro Softball Stadium.

The game was halted in the fifth by the 10-run rule.

Harris was selected as the championship Most Valuable Player. She had a single and double on Saturday and had three hits, including a home run, and two RBI to lead Enka to a 5-1 victory in the series opener Friday night.

Enka jumped in front immediately with a four-run first, keyed by a solo home run by Payton Trantham and a two-run single by sophomore Mariah Foxworth, and the Sugar Jets were off and running.

The Sugar Jets, the only unbeaten team in the championship field, finished 28-0 and last won an NCHSAA state softball crown in 1996. Northern Guilford made its first trip to the state softball championships and finished 25-4.
