Two first-time participants lead FJ Invitational
Benjamin Shipp, Won Jun Lee shoot 4-under-par 66 to share lead at Sedgefield Country Club – Donald Ross Course

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Benjamin Shipp of Duluth, Georgia, and Won Jun Lee of Wesley Chapel, Florida, each carded a 4-under-par 66 to lead after the first round of the FJ Invitational at Sedgefield Country Club – Donald Ross Course. They lead by two strokes over four players leading into Wednesday’s second round.

The tournament was played at similar yardages and hole locations to the PGA TOUR’s Wyndham Championship, which has been held at Sedgefield Country Club – Donald Ross Course since 2008. The par-70 layout played at 7,097 yards.

Lee played in the eighth group of the day and claimed the early clubhouse lead after shooting a bogey-free back nine. The 16-year-old is playing in his third Invitational of 2015. Lee, a rising junior at Saddlebrook High School, won his first tournament at the 2014 Coca-Cola Junior All-Star at Sugarloaf and has already added two top-four finishes early in the 2015 season.

Lee credited his impressive round to staying loose out on the course.

“I hit my driver and my irons with good accuracy all day,” said Lee, who is No. 29 in the Polo Golf Rankings. “I just enjoyed it out there with my friends and that helped me shoot the 66 today.”

Shipp tallied six birdies – including four in a five-hole stretch – to finish the first round tied for the lead with Lee. The rising senior at Greater Atlanta Christian has finished in the top 10 in his past three AJGA tournaments. Shipp, a North Carolina State University verbal commit, believed his momentum began when he sunk a 25-foot birdie putt on No. 8 to get him under par for the first time all day.

“I’ve made big improvements this spring and coming into the summer I felt confident,” Shipp said. “But to shoot a 66 on a PGA TOUR-level course is obviously pretty special. It gives me a new outlook on getting there.”

Shrish Dwivedi of Redwood City, California, Andrew Kozan of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Garrett Barber of Stuart, Florida, and Michael Feagles of Scottsdale, Arizona, sit tied for third at 2-under-par 68.

Second-round tee times will run from 7-11:30 a.m. off the No. 1 tee at Sedgefield Country Club – Donald Ross Course. For more information, please contact Tournament Headquarters at 678-644-4258.
