HiToms Walk Against Grizzlies – Win in 13:Ryan Hedrick(Southern Guilford HS) WP and now (3-0)

In the bottom of the thirteenth Kenon Menard singled to right for a walk off win over the Grizzlies, 5-4

FINCH FIELD, NC, JUNE, 8 – After thirteen innings of off and on rain the HiToms (5-7) rallied to win in the bottom of the thirteenth, 5-4 against the Gastonia Grizzlies (5-5).

A lone run was scored in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly from Drew Ellis (Louisville) to score Nick Lopez (Creighton). However, Gastonia responded by scoring single runs in the fourth and fifth inning. A two run error in the top of the eighth allowed the Grizzlies to take their largest lead of the ballgame, 4-1.

In the bottom of the ninth the HiToms rallied to score three runs and tie the ball game at four a piece. Daniel Millwee (Arizona) benefited from a Jackson Mims (East Carolina) error to reach first. Both Hunter Slater (Southern Mississippi) and Teddy Hoffman (Texas State) were walked to load the bases with no outs. Dalton Mosbarger (Akron University) pinch-hit for David Newcomer (Lenoir-Ryhne) who reached on a fielder’s choice that sent Hoffman back to the dugout. The HiToms were now down 4-2 after the Mosbarger RBI. However, during that same play a throwing error by the second baseman allowed Slater to scamper across the plate to bring the HiToms within one. A wild pitch allowed Mosbarger to go from first to third, which set the stage for a Lopez single into right field to tie the ballgame.

The game remained scoreless in the extra frames until a thirteenth inning two-out single by Kenon Menard (Southeastern Louisiana) that plated Grant Schreiver (Louisville) to walk off against the visiting Gastonia Grizzlies.

Ryan Hedrick (Southern Guilford HS/Presbyterian College) picked up the win by throwing a perfect thirteenth inning, which improved his record to 3-0.

The HiToms are back at home for Shuler Meats Dollar night this Wednesday to face off against the Lexington County Blowfish. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. and gates open at 6:00 p.m.
