HiToms Blow Away Copperheads, 12-3

FINCH FIELD, NC, – The bats came alive for the HiToms (7-8) tonight at Finch Field as the Tommies blasted two homeruns en route to a 12-3 victory over the Asheboro Copperheads (7-8).

The HiToms broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth by scoring seven runs. Jake Maziar (Chattahoochee Valley CC) singled into right to score Nick Lopez (Creighton) and Kenon Menard (Southeastern Louisiana). Teddy Hoffman (Texas State) hit a sacrifice fly to score Daniel Millwee (Arizona). Slater singled to center to score Maziar. The scoring continued in the 6th as Hoffman blasted a three run homerun to make it 10-1. A solo home run in the bottom of the seventh from Ruedisili ended the scoring from the HiToms where they capped the highest scoring game of the season at 13 runs.

Two runs were plated in the top of the seventh as the Copperheads tried to start some type of comeback but it was doused after the solo homerun from Ruedisili.

Mac Sceroler (Southeastern Louisiana) came away with the win after six innings pitched. He gave up one run off six hits, walking two and striking out six.

Assistant coach Taylor Terrasas said, “I thought today that we hit well, obviously. We threw pretty decent and played good defense. If you do those things you’ll have a chance every game and hopefully these guys can take this big win and throw it into tomorrow and the rest of the weekend.”

The Tommies are back at home tomorrow night against the Fuquay Varina Twins at 6:00 p.m. with a free concert by Crossing Avery following the game.
