HiToms Walk Off Asheboro, 6-5

FINCH FIELD, NC, – After thirteen innings of 90 degree weather baseball the HiToms (8-8) for the second time in two nights won in walk off fashion over the Asheboro Copperheads (7-9), 6-5.

The Copperheads took a commanding 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh but the HiToms had different plans for the game. With one out Daniel Millwee (Arizona) blasted a solo homerun to set the stage for a come back. Drew Ellis (Louisville) walked after a strikeout by Hunter Slater (Southern Mississippi). That brought up Kody Ruedisili (Wofford) who doubled to put Ellis on third. Nick Lopez (Creighton) then came to the plate and doubled to tie the game at five a piece.

Innings eight through twelve had nothing to offer but free baseball. However, in the bottom of the thirteenth, Millwee singled to center, which proved to be the spark to an exciting comeback. Slater then singled to center giving enough time for the winning run (Millwee) to go to third. The script was written and Ellis was able to be apart of it. With two outs and a 2-1 count Ellis singled straight down the middle for a walk of hit that plated Millwee for a 6-5 win over the Asheboro Copperheads.

Ryan Hedrick (Presbyterian College) took the win once more to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the season. Hedrick threw a scoreless 5.2 innings allowing four hits striking out five.

The HiToms now sit at .500 on the season and will play the Copperheads tomorrow night in Asheboro for the fifth meeting between the two teams this season. Martinsville comes to High Point – Thomasville Tuesday for the HiToms next home game. First pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
