HiToms Win, 15-4 at Petersburg, Virginia and make it two wins in a-row

HiToms Win, 15-4

PETERSBURG SPORTS COMPLEX, – In 95 degree weather the HiToms made it two in a row with a win over the Petersburg Generals, 15-4.

In the top of the first the HiToms went to work early. Jake Maziar (Costal Carolina) doubled to score David Sheaffer (The Masters College), which was followed by another double. This one came from Alec Paradowski (Wofford) who plated Maziar to give the HiToms a 2-0 lead.

The bats stayed hot going into the top of the second after a scoreless bottom of the first. Ryan Hedrick (Presbyterian College) and Nick Lopez (Creighton) were both plated by a Sheaffer single into left for runs three and four. Then with bases loaded Drew Ellis (Louisville) worked a walk plating Sheaffer for run number five.

Two scoreless innings was enough for the Generals as they responded with two runs. This was the only spark the Generals were able to muster up through nine innings.

In the top of the fourth, Hedrick blasted one over the twenty-five foot wall in right field for a three run home run, his first of the season. This was in addition to a run by Maziar off a pass ball that gave the HiToms a 9-2 lead heading to the bottom of the fourth.

Ryan Hedrick kept the runs coming in the top of the fifth hitting a triple into center plating Paradowski and Ellis for runs ten and eleven. Hedrick came in off an infield error by the Generals for run number twelve.

A couple insurance runs were added on and ultimately the Tommies took a 15-4 win on the road.

Austin Gardner (University of Texas at Arlington) started on the mound throwing six innings allowing two runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts. Josh Davis (Akron University) came in as the relief pitcher throwing two innings allowing two runs on four hits striking out one.

The HiToms continue their road trip after a day off as they travel to Forest City and then are back home Friday against the Martinsville Mustangs.
