  1. Andy with Colt Ball being a GSO Recreational League, are there mandated playing time? Watch a team play Page last night with 8-10 kids on the bench. Need to split teams like Page. Kids can Not develop sitting there and never playing.

  2. Sounds like a good idea and the concept seems to working pretty good for Page with both teams near the top of the standings….

A good question for Mr. Stowe and you ought to run this one by him…He is doing a very good job of running this league and it has seen considerable growth this season…

  3. I would love to hear Mr. Stowe comment on this! this particular school had a large number of players on the roster the past few years. I know many never see any action and have to pay $100 each.

  4. From looking at the standings Page does have two teams. Hard to split teams up to where you only have 10 on the roster. On any give week you have two kids go on vacation then you would have to forfeit. The players need to develop through practice and scrimmages during the summer amongst their own programs. Of course that takes extra time and work from the coaching staffs so not sure how much of that takes place.

  5. Andy, I really hope we get some clearity on this. Colt ball is a Rec League but seems its controlled by some HS coaches? The concept is wonderful, but a few schools just don’t get it…

  6. GSO baseball,

Rec baseball is were you work on your skill set. There’s no such thing as Colt practice/scrimmages. Page does it right as they are Building a stronger program. They weren’t concerned with the standings, unlike some other HS coaches in this League. This isa Rec League and everyone should play..

  7. Last time I checked a lot of these “Rec” teams are simply their high school team coached by their HS coach. Any HS coach that wants to see his team get better should be practicing during the summer in addition to playing games. If you have attended a Colt game you would know they aren’t going to improve that much with the majority of the competition in the league.

  8. GSO Baseball I agree to some extent. bring rising freshmen and sophomores to summer colt and you should see improvement in those kids. don’t see where you can expect much improvement by bringing rising juniors and seniors to summer colt unless some are trying to learn a new position. sort of like varsity playing jv. yes you might go undefeated or close to it but were you really challenged? the goal in summer baseball should be to develop players, not beat other teams by 10 runs. but hey give Don Stowe & Greensboro Colt baseball credit. they have big numbers this summer meaning lots of kids are getting to play baseball without having to pay big $ and travel all over the state.
