HPU MBB’s Devante Wallace To Play Abroad In Austria

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Former High Point University men’s basketball guard Devante Wallace will begin his professional basketball career in Austria with WBC Raiffeisen Wels, the club announced this week.

The club team – based in Wels, Austria – competes annually in the Austrian Basketball League and also participates in the Austrian Basketball Cup and Eurocup. The team won the Austrian National Championship in 2009 and captured the Austrian Cup title in 2006.

“I’m looking forward to starting the next step of my career in Austria,” Wallace said. “I want to thank High Point University, my coaches and my teammates for helping me achieve my dream of playing professional basketball. My four years at HPU were unforgettable and I look forward to following the team from abroad next season.”

Wallace started 30 of 32 games for the Purple & White in 2014-15 and ranked second on the Panthers with 10.3 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest. He ranked 10th in the Big South in defensive rebounds/game overall (4.21) and seventh in that category in league play (4.51). Wallace also was 11th in the Big South with 2.0 3-point field goals made per game in Big South action.

The Baltimore, Md., native shot 42.9 percent (36-84) from 3-point territory in league play and averaged 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds while shooting 50.0 percent (8-16) from 3-point range in postseason competition.

Wallace ends his HPU career ranked No. 2 all-time in 3-point percentage (.424) and No. 3 in 3-point field goals made (184).

About the Panthers: The High Point University men’s basketball team is coming off a record-breaking 2014-15 season that saw the Panthers set new Div. I program records for wins (23), Big South wins (13), road wins (9) and Big South road wins (6).
