Guilford College Quakers’ Football Preseason Top 25/Tyler Hunt(Eastern Guilford HS) preseason All-American

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s football team is ranked 13th in the Lindy’s Sports 2015 NCAA Division III Top 25 Poll and senior wide receiver Adam Smith (Mocksville, N.C./Davie) was named to the publication’s Second Team All-Division III unit. Another summer publication, The Sporting News College Football Yearbook, tabbed Quakers’ senior punter Tyler Hunt (Gibsonville, N.C./Eastern Guilford) to its Division III All-America Team.

Head coach Chris Rusiewicz begins his fifth season on the Quakers’ sidelines with 19 starters back from last season’s 8-2 unit, which matched the school record for wins and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victories (5) in a season. Guilford expects 77 returning letter winners in preseason camp, which begins in August. Some 21 of the veterans are seniors, which marks one of the biggest senior classes in school history.

Smith is one of nine offensive starters back for the Quakers. The 5-10, 165-pound receiver caught a team-high 52 passes for 1,072 yards and 15 touchdowns last season. He ranked third among Division III touchdown catch-leaders and was 10th with 107.2 receiving yards per contest. Smith had five games with 100 or more receiving yards, which helped him to First Team D3football.com All-South and All-ODAC honors. The three-time all-league pick starts his senior season ranked fourth among Guilford’s career leaders in receiving yards (2,726) and touchdowns (30). His 158 catches in 30 career games stand eighth all-time in school history.

Like Smith, Hunt is a three-time All-ODAC honoree and also has two career All-South commendations from D3football.com. A year ago, Hunt was a third-team all-region and first-team all-league punter after topping the conference with a 42.7 yards per kick average. He had a long boot of 57 yards last year and pinned five of his 28 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. His efforts helped Guilford rank ninth in the nation with a 35.96-yard net punting average. Hunt also handles Guilford’s kickoffs and was a First Team All-ODAC place-kicker. He stands prominently among the school’s career kicking leaders and has a 40.9-yard average in 105 career punt attempts.

Rusiewicz’s Quakers report to preseason camp August 12 in preparation for their season-opening contest with Greensboro College Sept. 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Grimsley High School’s Jamieson Stadium.
