GREENSBORO, N.C. – Reigning FedExCup champion Billy Horschel and Japanese superstar Hideki Matsuyama will play the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR, the tournament announced today. The 76th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 17-23, 2015 at Sedgefield Country Club.
These players join World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els, 2007 champion Brandt Snedeker, 2011 champion Webb Simpson, 2011 FedExCup champion Bill Haas, reigning champion Camilo Villegas, two-time champion Davis Love III, 2008 winner Carl Pettersson, 2005 champion K.J. Choi and 2010 winner Arjun Atwal in the field.

Horschel stormed through the 2014 FedExCup Playoffs winning the BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola to claim the 2014 FedExCup championship and its $10 Million prize. This season, his best finishes are third at the Valero Texas Open and tied for seventh at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Horschel is 20th in the Official World Golf Rankings and 45th FedExCup point standings; he is making his fourth Wyndham Championship appearance.

Matsuyama will make his third-consecutive Wyndham Championship appearance this year; he missed the cut last year but finished 15th in 2013. Matsuyama won the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance last year; he has four top-five finishes this year including a fifth-place showing at the Masters tournament. He is 15th in the Official Golf World Rankings and 16th in the current FedExCup point standings.

“These two players are major additions to the Wyndham Championship field,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “Billy made an incredible run in the playoffs last year, and Hideki is huge star all over the world. These two players are great examples of golfers that understand the point system and know they have a better chance of winning the FedExCup if they enter the playoffs highly ranked. I really like the way our field is shaping up for this year’s tournament.”
