HPU Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The High Point University volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Team Academic Award for the 2014-15 season, the association announced on Wednesday.

“Obviously the AVCA has done their due diligence in seeking out which programs have succeeded in the classroom,” head coach Jason Oliver said. “We are honored to have the type of student-athletes here at High Point University that work hard to be successful students. I am proud of our team for their effort in the classroom and look forward to getting better every year.”

The Panthers have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award in five of coach Oliver’s six seasons at the helm of the program. The Purple & White carried a 3.406 GPA including junior Gabi Mirand’s 4.0 GPA for the year.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team GPA on a 4.0 scale.
