Major Champions join Wyndham Championship Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jason Dufner, the 2013 PGA Championship winner, and two-time U.S. Open Champion Retief Goosen will play the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event, the tournament announced today. The 76th annual Wyndham Championship is set for Aug. 17-23, 2015 at Sedgefield Country Club.
These players join World Golf Hall of Famer Ernie Els, reigning FedExCup champion Billy Horschel, 2007 champion Brandt Snedeker, 2011 champion Webb Simpson and 2011 FedExCup champion Bill Haas, Hideki Matsuyama, reigning champion Camilo Villegas, two-time champion Davis Love III, 2008 winner Carl Pettersson, 2005 champion K.J. Choi and 2010 winner Arjun Atwal in the field. “Young Guns” Justin Thomas, Ollie Schniederjans, Daniel Berger, Chesson Hadley, Patrick Rodgers and Cameron Smith will also play.

Dufner is a three-time PGA TOUR winner including his triumph in the 2013 PGA Championship. He qualified for the 2014 FedExCup Playoffs but was not able to play because of a neck injury and dropped to 90th in the final season standings; he returned to competition last fall. He recorded top-10 finishes at the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship and the World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions earlier this season. He will make his eighth Wyndham Championship appearance later this month; he finished tied for seventh in 2012, his last appearance here. He is 100th in the current FedExCup point standings and 87th in the Official World Golf Rankings.

Goosen is a two-time U.S. Open champion and will make his fourth appearance at the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event. He won the U.S. Open Championship in 2001 and ’04. He finished tied for 51st in the 75th anniversary Wyndham Championship last year but finished tied for 17th in 2011. Goosen has shown recent signs of a return to form; he was on the leaderboard most of the Open Championship before a final-round 74 dropped him into a tie for 20th. A native of South Africa, Goosen is a seven-time PGA TOUR winner with 24 international victories to his credit. He is 110th in the current FedExCup point standings and 196th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
