Kevin Westlake pitched a four-hitter and Greensboro ended Hoosier North’s tournament with a 6-2 victory.

Beginning with Dawson Skees’ RBI groundout in the fifth, Westlake retired the final eight batters he faced. The North Carolina-Wilmington commit walked four and struck out three, but worked the outer edge of the plate and limited solid contact from Hoosier North.

Westlake came on in relief in the first meeting against Hoosier North. He was running to cover first on the failed flip on what would have been the third out. Hoosier North instead walked off with a 10-9 victory.

That was the seventh error Greensboro committed in that game. It committed two more in an 11-1 victory over Pasadena, Texas, on Saturday, but made no errors on Sunday.

“We were really hungry and ready to get after them today,” Westlake said. “We didn’t really have a game plan, we just wanted to come out and battle. We didn’t want to have those errors. We wanted to play smooth in the field and hit the ball like we did last time.”

Greensboro broke things open in the bottom of the third. An RBI double by Westlake preceded Logan King’s two-run single, giving Greensboro a 5-0 lead and chasing Hoosier North starting pitcher Baylee Young.

Greensboro scored in the top of the first when Patrick Callaghan doubled home Cameron Williamson. In the second inning, Jacob Edwards’ two-out slow roller up the first base line scored Logan King made it 2-0….
