Busy afternoon/evening at the Dudley Football Jamboree

Dudley Panthers in three games tonight at the Football Jamboree and the Panthers best competition may have come from the Western Alamance Warriors….WA was successful in scoring against the Panthers and WA was able to pick off some Dudley passes, but Dudley still was able to claim at least three games at home today….Dudley over Western Alamance, High Point Central and Southeast Raleigh…

Southeast Raleigh had former Page, High Point Central and Grimsley assistant coach and offensive coordinator Coach Joshua Resignalo/Coach Res running the defense and SE Raleigh still could handle Dudley…By the time Dudley faced SE Raleigh, the Panthers were in their third game….

Dudley had one of the top, if not the top QB on the field today in Hendon Hooker and Hendon looks like a college quarterback standing back there in the pocket…Will Jones of Page is not all that far behind Hooker and Will had a solid day of throwing the ball and he still has a good hookup working with his #1 receiver Diondre Overton….The #1 that really stood our for Page today in their second game was the player with #1 in his jersey, Javon Leake….Page got all of its kicks for PAT’s going through, all good by senior Harrison Kiser, with no rush…Vance on Page with a TD catch, an interception return for a pick six if they were allowing those and then Vance scored a late TD on a run and on the late TD, Page defensive coordinator Norman Weeks said he had not called for a blitz from his defense and he sent them on the last play of the day and they got burnt…..

Page did play well overall and there is a lot of excitement in the Page camp this season and rightfully so, with a very solid QB, WR/WR’s and the RB….Good line up front too and Coach Weeks and Coach Gillespie will have that defense ready….

Lots of running late in the Smith-HP Central contest from Chavis Little of Central….Little several nifty runs and at the same time for Central you had Bison QB Larry McLean connecting with WR Davon McCauley…We remember Savon from last season hooking up with Jamiel Mack….HP Central came way on back and made it game with Smith, but you have to give the Smith Golden Eagles credit, on the day, they played inspired football, behind their leader at QB Terrell Dumpson, who ears #9 now and he was wearing #6 last year and I think he wants #6 back…Smith also got a very good effort from their RB’s #29 and #87…Those kids flashed speed and power with #29 going with speed and #85 acting as a battering ram…I will have to get those names that go witih those numbers…..

Ben L. Smith coach Antonio Kirkpatrick is getting a lot out of the numbers(number of players) that he has to work with and he has a coach helping him that loves football and there was a time when everybody in town loved and this kid and that is David Moore….David Moore will be a big boost to the Smith Golden Eagle coaching staff and Quentin Chavis, the brother of Josh Chavis is on hand and helping too, with the quarterbacks….

One thing that stuck out in my mind today was when one of the High Point Central coaches told one of his linemen to “Stop Taking Plays OFF”…….In their first game of the and I think it was versus Vance, the Smith Golden Eagles were finding success with the “dump pass” going from their QB Dumpson to their RB’s out of the backfield….Smith Coach KP/Kirkpatrick said he was pleased with the way his men were able to compete…

Dudley had the ball moving in Game One versus High Point Central and Dudley kept it moving all day long with QB Hendon Hooker at the helm and it did not slow down for Dudley all day….Connell Young gave Dudley power and speed from the backfield and the Syracuse-bound RB was Dudley’s top back on the day…Dudley came out running it hard behind Young and then as the afternoon moved into evening, Dudley opened up their air game too with Hooker putting in flight….

Hendon Hooker connected with Jayden Maynor on a 40-yard TD against High Point Central and later in the day we saw Maynor taking snaps at backup QB….As we all know by now Hendon(Alan) Hooker the son of former Eastern Randolph/N.C. A&T legendary QB Alan Hooker and Jayden Maynor is the nephew of former Winston-Salem State and N.C. A&T quarterback Connell Maynor…..Dudley also got some very strong runs today from Cedric Harden and when your switch it to defense, defensive coordinator Brandon Anderson is very pleased with the effort of all of his men and he knows when it comes to experience it will be hard to top his secondary of Simeon Gatling, Brion Seagraves, Mac McLean and Myles White…..

Both of the Dudley lines were impressive today and there may be a few small college teams with linemen that are actually smaller than Dudley’s top ‘Cats/Panthers…..Little, Wilson and company can take this team a long way and Nies up along that defensive front is going to be a standard-bearer too….

I have a few names and numbers I will be adding to game listing later on, so stay tuned…..
Let’s add in Kenique Covington and Curt Ervin from HP Central making plays and Jordan Colon from Smith with a pick of a Bison pass…..

Dudley, Page and Smith all looking good today and High Point Central can run…Charlotte Vance is a very athletic team and Western Alamance will give Northern Guilford and Eastern Alamance run for their money in the Mid-State 3-A…Do not yet have a good read on Southeast Raleigh, but Coach Res will get us one as we get going on our way down the road….
