GREENSBORO, N.C. – Tiger Woods will play the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event, the tournament announced today. The 76th annual Wyndham Championship began today at Sedgefield Country Club.

Woods entered the field Friday evening pursuant to PGA TOUR rules, but with the second round of the PGA Championship incomplete due to a weather delay, Woods said he would determine his next steps following completion of the season’s final Major championship won yesterday by Jason Day. This morning, Woods announced that he would make his first Wyndham Championship appearance this week.

“This is obviously huge news for the Wyndham Championship,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “I’m most excited for golf fans throughout the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina who have stayed with us through thick and thin. We’ve had some great events over the last 10 years, and this one will obviously be very special with an unbelievable field – the best in our tournament history. Tiger choosing to play here is the icing on the cake.”
In Wednesday’s Louis DeJoy and Aldona Z. Wos Family Foundation Pro-Am, Woods will tee off at 7 a.m. with Los Angeles Clippers star Chris Paul, an alumnus of nearby Wake Forest University.

With Woods now confirmed in the Wyndham Championship field, Wednesday public parking, originally scheduled for American Premier Furniture on Gate City Blvd. (Formerly High Point Road), will move to the Greensboro Coliseum Complex parking lot and remain there through Sunday.

This week’s Wyndham Championship will be the 10th time Woods has played in North Carolina. He played the Wells Fargo Championship six times with one win and two top-10 finishes. He played the U.S. Open at Pinehurst twice; he finished tied for second in 1999 and tied for third in 2005. He did not play in 2014. At age 17, he won the 1992 Insurance Youth Golf Classic at Pinehurst No. 7.
