HPU Women’s Soccer’s Kai-Lin Hernandez Named To Jamaican Women’s National Team

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Junior midfielder Kai-Lin Hernandez of the High Point University women’s soccer team has been named to the Jamaican Women’s National Team for the Caribbean Football Union Olympic Qualifying Tournament which begins on Friday.

“I am extremely proud of Kai-Lin for working so hard to make this dream a reality,” head coach Marty Beall said. “This doesn’t happen by accident, it comes from hard work on the field and in the weight room. This is a great honor for Kai-Lin and we are all very happy for her.”

The “Reggae Girlz” will travel to the Dominican Republic to take part in the Olympic qualifying competition. The top three teams from that competition will qualify for the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament in January.

Hernandez has appeared in 40 games with six starts over her first two seasons at High Point, playing primarily as a defensive midfielder and center back. She scored her first collegiate goal in HPU’s 3-1 win over Radford last season.

High Point kicks off its season on Friday, Aug. 21 when the team hosts Georgia in Vert Stadium at 7 p.m. The Panthers return 24 letter winners and nine starters from last season’s Big South Championship squad, which set an HPU Div. I record for wins in a season with 12.
