College Football gets kicking tonight with local guys involved:Carolina(North) vs. Carolina(South) headliner

North Carolina vs. South Carolina at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte tonight with T.J. Logan(Northern Guilford HS) set to be either the starting RB or to play a lot vs. the Gamecocks…
Wonder who will be the Tar Heels rushing leader this season, will it be T.J., Elijah Hood(Charlotte Catholic) or the QB Marquise Williams(Mallard Creek)???

Kickoff for Tar Heels vs. Gamecocks should come some time around (they are going to kick it at 6pm)… Another ESPN contest as they try to control all of the times and the dates…

Also in there(along the sidelines) for the Heels will be DB Chris Ripberger(Northern Guilford), DL Jon Sugg(Northwest Guilford), Jon’s dad Mark was a starting OL for the Heels back in the day, RB/KR Darius Graves(Dudley) is on the team, but not sure if he will be there tonight or if plans to take a redshirt season….Could be others, we will check…

Clayton Stadnik(Western Guilford) should be someplace along the offensive line for the South Carolina Gamecocks, but we heard he had lost a lot of weight and moved into the tight end role…Has to still be a blocker, that is what he does best…His brother, Brock Stadnik’s career was cut short due to injuries….Brock also from Western Guilford and the Stadnik brothers were two of the best offensive linemen to ever play for Western Guilford and there was only one better, and I’m sitting here writing this blog…..

Winston-Salem State at UNC-Pembroke with Khalil Vance(Dudley) in there at DL for UNCP, plus Rick Mack(Southwest Guilford) is there(at UNCP) as defensive back and there may be more, we will have to look and cook them up…For WSSU, you have the veteran kicker from High Point Central in Will Johnson…Will does the punting and the kicking for the Rams and was listed as preseason All-CIAA…Justin Johnson(High Point Central) has been slated to be the starting QB for WSSU….Albert McLean(Dudley) who attended Ferndale Middle, right beside HP Central and then later on his family moved to Greensboro, Albert is on the defensive line for WSSU….We may have more, we will need to look them and cook them up…

Elon at Wake Forest, at the BB&T Field in Winston-Salem with Tre Lennon(Smith HS) still at WR for Elon and Thuc Phan(Page HS) still listed as RB and kick return man for Elon, plus the Kalin McNeil(Northeast Guilford) has been on the charts as a linebacker for WFU…

Might be more we will or you can add them in and we will go look up a few more for this blog post…..
Also tonight you have Duke at Tulane 9:30pm on CBS Sports TV and Pikeville at Campbell….Kevin Gehsmann(Western Guilford) at Duke as a LB and Dalton Dillon(Northwest Guilford) should still be at Campbell, as an RB….Also for Campbell you have Austin Coltrane(DB) from Northern Guilford, Shawn Millsap(High Point Christian Academy) at TE and Jacob Roberts(Northern Guilford) on the OL, plus De’Shawn Jones(RB) from Grimsley HS…..Dalton Dillon now listed at 6’1/225 RB for the Camels….Coltrane at 5’11/180….

More locals from UNC-Pembroke:

  1. Bad news here from WRALSportsFan.com:

UNC’S BACKFIELD: UNC has settled on sophomore Elijah Hood as its starting tailback instead of junior T.J. Logan(Northern Guilford HS). The Charlotte Catholic High School star was a touted recruit who struggled through an injury-plagued debut season, but can move the pile with a 6-foot, 220-pound frame. If Hood can provide a physical tone, that could take the pressure off dual-threat quarterback Marquise Williams.

  2. Yes, this is all about Guilford County…It is like these kids are a part of the GreensboroSports.com family and we helped get them down that beaten path…

Yes, I wanted to see TJ start and excel..I am really not a North Carolina fan, but I am a TJ Logan fan because he came from our area…

I want to see the kid make it to the pros one day, since football is what he does best….

I’m sure Hood is a good kid, but we need to keep in mind what is best for the ‘Boro and the County….

  3. And one more quick note, look how many locals Wake Forest has from our Guilford County area….ONE, just one that is crazy…Elon has just around three…

Locals is where it is at…That is what puts them in the seats….At least that is the way I see it and others may differ, but I say, “That’s the way it is”….

We have great football around here, the colleges need to see it and utilize…Guilford and Greensboro College are racking up the locals on the DIII level and WSSU has gone hog wild on the DII level…

The talent is here, let’s put it to good use…

  4. It should be all about Guilford County around here! TJ not starting is bad news to us who follow the local talent at the next level. I mean really get a clue, “what?”.

  5. One thing I find interesting is this, with Matt Pawlowski(Northwest Guilford) set to start at QB for Guilford College…Lamar Raynard(High Point Andrews) set to start at QB for N.C. A&T, and Justin Johnson(High Point Central) set to start at QB for Winston-Salem State….

  6. I find it a little funny that TJ, who is older, is getting beaten out by Hood. If any of y’all remember a few years ago, Northern broke the all-time TD record for a RB with Logan against Hood and Charlotte Catholic in the State Championship.

Karma? I like TJ, he’s a good guy, but it feels like it.

  7. T.J. is faster, but Hood is stronger..Looks like the Heels are looking for power and durability…

T.J. should still get his chance/opportunity….

  8. You guys need to slow it down…Carolina hasn’t had a true starting running back since Fedora started coaching there. Most of the time he rotates all the backs in and out…I don’t think that will change. So watch and see TJ will get his touches…and we’ll see if Hood can get/play a full season

  9. Another crazy mix for tonight’s game is the part where you have QB Conner Mitch, from Raleigh Wakefield HS, throwing to Pharoh Cooper from Havelock HS…South Carolina with two key parts(Cooper and Mitch) from North Carolina headlining the show….

  10. Hood may be the man, but if TJ has the ball on that 44 yard run Hood had…TJ takes it to the house!! Hood is slow!!!

  11. Don’t forget to put the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on your radar. Ranked #9 D II…..got 2 Page Pirates from last year, Mac Hild & Dominick Britt. Also, Mars Hill has 1 Page Pirate from last year, Chris Mosley.
