College Men’s Golf Results – Guilford Second at Transylvania Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Guilford College’s men’s golf team shot a six-under-par 282 in Sunday’s third and final round of the Transylvania Fall Invitational. The Quakers’ 12th-lowest score in school history vaulted the team from ninth into a share of second place in the 16-team field. Guilford shot 284-306-282-872 to finished tied with Wittenberg University and six strokes behind the tournament host Pioneers.

Transylvania, ranked 48th in the initial Golfstat.com NCAA Division III ratings, was one of eight top-50 teams in the field. Wittenberg is ranked third and Guilford ninth. Greensboro College, ranked 43rd nationally, placed fourth in the event with an 883.

The teams competed on the par-72, 7,013-yard Big Blue Course at the University Club of Kentucky.

Guilford junior Ty Palmer fired a five-under 67, Sunday’s low score by two strokes, which shot him up to a share of fourth place among individuals. He shot 69-77-67-213 and finished four strokes behind Greensboro College’s Levi Grogan, the tournament medalist at 609.

The Quakers’ Tanner Gross shot one-under 71 Sunday, which helped him climb into eighth place with a 70-75-71-216. Teammate Aaron Abts also carded a 71 Sunday and finished in a share of 28th place at 74-79-71-224. Guilford’s Kendall Dunn was one shot behind in 33rd place at 71-81-73-225. Josh Hill shot 79-75-76-230 in his college debut.

Coach Justin Tereshko’s unit competes next weekend in the Flower City Preview in suburban Rochester, New York, on the same courses used in the 2016 NCAA Division III Championships.
