HIGH POINT, N.C. – Senior Annemarie Chin earned Big South Defensive Player of the Week while freshman Jordan Hefner was named conferece Freshman of the Week.
The Panthers went 3-1 in four home matches on the week with wins over Elon, South Carolina State and Loyola Maryland before dropping a 5-set thriller to Georgia State.
Chin paced the Purple & White’s defense with 5.88 digs per set during the week’s action. Her best performance came in the 4-set victory over Loyola Maryland when she racked up 32 digs to tie her career high for a 4-set match. The senior earned HPU Classic All-Tournament honors with 6.17 digs per set over the weekend.
Hefner joined Chin on the HPU Classic All-Tournament team with 1.82 kills per set 0.76 blocks per set on the week. She really came on at the end of the week with a 9-kill, 3-block outing versus Loyola Maryland and followed that up with a 10-kill, 6-block performance against Georgia State in the HPU Classic title game.
HPU is back in action on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at UNCG before hosting the Panther Invitational against Marshall, Davidson and Wake Forest on Sept. 11-12.
