WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Juliana Evans-Anfom’s goal mid-way through the second half lifted Guilford College to a Saturday afternoon victory over Wesleyan College, 1-0. The game was played on the campus of Salem College as part of a four-team classic with North Carolina Wesleyan College, Salem, and Wesleyan.

The Quakers out-shot the Wolves, 10-0, after the first half where the first 15 minutes of the period saw no shots for either side. The majority of Guilford’s offensive chances came in bursts during the period as Guilford earned three corner kick opportunities in a 1:19 span of the middle of the first half. Morgan Sleeth fired off three shots consecutively in a 2:04 span from near the end of the 38th minute to the tail end of the 40th minute, two of those shots being on target.

Wesleyan mustered two offensive chances in the first 24 minutes of the second half where shots were limited as the Quakers held the second-half edge up to that point, 3-2. The Quakers turned up the offensive pressure until the 78th minute when Evans-Anfom fired a shot from a Nicole Karukas feed into the back of the net to break the ice.

The Quakers ended with a 21-2 shot advantage for the match while holding the edge on corner kicks, 13-1.

Maggie Albert made two saves in net for the Quakers. Centara Nulf stopped five shots for Wesleyan.

After consecutive contests against Wesleyan in the last six days, Guilford continues at Salem College’s tournament tomorrow, facing the host Spirits at 2:30 p.m.
