SALEM, VA – The Greensboro College men’s soccer team opened play at the 2015 All Sports Café Roanoke College Invitational on Friday night. The Pride squared off with the host Maroons of Roanoke College and fell by a 3-0 mark.

The two teams played scoreless until the 28th minute of play when Jackson Goyette put Roanoke on top 1-0 with a header to the top right corner of the goal. After establishing the one goal lead, the Maroons found the back of the net once more in the period to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission period.

In the second half of play, Greensboro had a couple of opportunities but could not capitalize. Roanoke struck one more time in the 87th to wrap up the scoring and handing Greensboro the 3-0 defeat.

“We lost to a good team in Roanoke that took advantage of our mistakes,” Head Coach Tony Falvino remarked following the game. “We need to learn from this experience and grow as a team. We look forward to another opportunity to get better tomorrow as we take on Lynchburg.”

The shot category was just about even in the contest with the Pride being outshot 9-6. Craig Gage led the way with two shots in the game while Shaun Watt, Carlos Barragan, Nick Tate, and Mike Tzavlas each recorded one.

Jamie Payamps (1-2) took the loss between the pipes for Greensboro and recorded one save.

The Pride will return to the field again today for the second and final day of the invitational tournament. Greensboro will square off with the Hornets of Lynchburg College starting at 4:00 PM. For the latest on Pride athletics, continue to follow www.greensborocollegesports.com.
